Rainbow City at Community Park

Rainbow City is Davis’s landmark community-built wooden playground, tucked into the northeast corner of Community Park next to the Davis Art Center. The original was a beloved volunteer-built structure; it closed in late 2014 over an arsenic issue with the old pressure-treated wood and was rebuilt by the community and reopened a few years later, so what you visit today is the newer, safer version. It’s free, open daily, and squarely a destination playground rather than a quick pit stop.

What parents say: Across public reviews the recurring themes are consistent: families love the castle-and-pirate-ship theme, the swings, and the moving bridges and platforms — but several parents note it skews toward kids who can already climb and handle monkey bars rather than the youngest toddlers.
